Quartz

AUDIOVISUAL INSTALLATION (2013)
FOAM CORE, MIRRORS, LIGHT, SOUND.

DESCRIPTION

“Quartz” is the second chapter of the Light Fragment triptych, a series of installations directed by Joanie Lemercier,
and exhibited at Barneys New York on Madison avenue, during the holiday season.

It shows a parametric crystalline structure designed by Joanie Lemercier and Kyle McDonald. “Quartz” pulls back from a city’s high-rises to show the rock radiating energy. Mimicking a crystal, the crenulated surface absorbs light and refracts it into exploding cosmic patterns on the surrounding surfaces’. As the light source shifts, the form’s structure and visual output are altered.
The main structure is made of 99 CNCed foam pieces then covered by hand with mirrored fabric to keep the organic feeling of the design.
