GlitchesUnexpected elements appear on some drawings.
– hardware glitches (mechanical: loose screws, Z-servo dies regularly, paper moves)
– pen and ink glitches (pressure, uneven lines and textures, damaged pencil tip)
– software glitches: lines order, software crashes and unfinished drawings.Patterns:
In order to optimize drawing speed, I use a couple of line sorting algorythms (to reorder paths and minimize motors activity between lines) including
Anders Hoff‘s
svg-sorter. Most complex drawings would take about 24hours, compared to 60hours+ previously. When Glitches appear (pen running out of ink, ink density gradient, physical shift of paper/machine), the line sorting algorythms emerge and become visible in the finished drawings. This particular emergence is one of the elements I’m trying to focus on to explore how the machine takes part in the making of unique / un-reproductible pieces.
